365 - August 2014

It's the last month of summer but looks like the weather will be warm and agreeable.

Things to look forward to in August:
Spending 4 days in Toronto with my cousin Sarah at the 20th annual FAN EXPO :D
Bella's birthday (I can't believe my little shadow is turning 6)
Fastball - final regular season games and playoffs
Sharing new stories for work
Rehearsals for the variety show I'm in with Lisa, Dick, Peter and Sandy (Opening Sept 26 in Bellrock)

August 2, 2014 - Princess Street was jammed packed with people of all ages out to enjoy the sun, music and sales for the fourth annual Princess Street Promenade on Saturday August 2, 2014.
August 3, 2014 - Competitors in the long-course triathlon head to the start line of the water stage on Sunday morning for the 31st edition of the K-Town Triathlon.

August 9, 2014 - The sun starts to set over the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club as the last few players finish up the second round at the Whig-Standard Eastern Ontario golf championship.
*EXTRA* August 9, 2014 - Spectators lined the shores at Confederation Park and Royal Military College to watch the start of the 2014 1,000 Islands Poker Run on Saturday August 9, 2014. The high-performances boats left Kingston and were off to Brockville to get their 2nd playing card.
August 10, 2014 - Edmonton Oilers Taylor Hall knocks a puck around with a few of the young players during the skills practice at the 4th annual Skate with Taylor Hall Skills Camp on Sunday August 10, 2014 at the Invista Centre. The fund-raising event is presented by James Braden Ford and sees each player raising pledge money that goes to the Children’s Cancer Fund at Kingston General Hospital.

August 16, 2014 - 93 year-old Second World War veteran William Ralph Webb with his wife Olive Peggy Webb at presentation ceremony held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at the Waterford Retirement Residences. Webb was presented the Battle of Normandy 70th Anniversary medallion by Kingston and the Islands MP Ted Hsu. Webb was unable to attend the official ceremony in France this past June due to his health. He and Peggy are also celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

August 20, 2014 - The pros took to the course to practice on the greens on Wednesday August 20, 2014 at the Loyalist Golf and Country Club for the PGA Tour's Great Waterway Classic.

*EXTRA* August 22, 2014 - More than 40 people gathered at the front entrance of St. Lawrence College on Friday, August 22, 2014 to watch the director of business development at St. Lawrence College, Charlie Mignault, accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. In less than 24-hours members of Mignault's team started a project called Dumping on Charlie which helped raise over $600 from bids collected from across the campus. Mignault has nominated City of Kingston CAO Gerard Hunt, Theresa Westfall from Correctional Service Canada and Justice Brian Abrams to accept the challenge.
