POM (Photos of the Month) - October 2012

Loyalist Photojournalism 2nd year students run a Photo of the Month competition from the summer through to April.  Each months images are judged by a different member of our advisory board.

For the first time I placed..... For the month of October I came in 2nd place News category with one of my fire shots and in 3rd place in the Multiple Pictures category with my series on the Governor General's visit to Kingston.

I now have 75 points :D

Community News - Local Public Elementary Teachers Strike

KINGSTON, Ont. (21/12/2012) -- "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Bill-one fifteen has got to go", could be heard up and down Princess Street in Kingston around noon on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2012.  Over 200 local public elementary teachers from the Limestone District School Board and their supporters gathered outside M.P.P John Gerretsen's office as part of the rotating one-day protests against the Ontario Government's Bill 115, which gives the provincial government to ability to block strikes, as well as freezes teacher wages and reduce the number of available sick days.  Photos by Julia McKay

12/12/12

For some people this day means luck (births, weddings & anniversaries).  For others it the coming of the end of the world.  But a repetitive date like 12/12/12 will not be seen again in our generation.

I took on the challenge set by my classmates to shoot something on 12/12/12.  The skating rink at market square had just opened so I headed downtown.  This is the result:
