I decided to extend this internship one more week so my final day (as an intern) will be May 31. It'll just give the whole experience balance to end at the end of the month.
This week was a short one with the Victoria Day stat on Monday.
Events I covered: Police Chief for an afternoon, Pride parade advancer, KASSAA soccer finals,
and the EOSSAA tennis championships.
Stories I wrote: A profile on a local glass framer, the next Bellrock Theatre production, St. John's Anglican church anniversary,
This is what got published (and again, some events/stories were held for next week):

Internship - Kingston This Week - Week Two (May 23) Published
I know I'm repeating myself but week two just flew by.
I'm excited that I'm still being assigned my own stories along with shooting for other reporters. I'm starting to get recognized at some of the high school sports events now :)
I've lived in Kingston all my life and I find it fascinating that there are so many places I didn't know about. Did you know that we have a Tennis club and a lawn bowling club?
Events I covered: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Rolling on the Runway, Science Rendezvous, high school tennis, soccer and track/field, and the Legionnaires Parade.
Stories I wrote: CAA Worst roads campaign, Centennial Ecofair, first time author Jan Miller and the Blue Canoe fundraising campaign.

Internship - Kingston This Week - Week One (May 16) Published
So I'm onto my second internship. This time with the Kingston This Week and it's a four week (unpaid) internship.
It was a bit of an adjustment going from a daily to a weekly paper but the workload was just as challenging, just in different ways. There are fewer people in the editorial department at the KTW and the focus is more on features and community coverage - which is what I'm interested in right now. I'm still working on my writing (always room for improvement there) and trying to be creative with my photos.
Events I covered: high school rowing regatta, success by 6 events, mental health conference, trillium gymnastic gala, and high school field lacrosse
Stories I wrote: allergy season and the free high school mental health conference

Internship - Whig Standard Week Three - Published
All done. Wish I could stay (and get paid) but since I can't - here's a look at my last week of interning with The Kingston Whig-Standard. I got to shoot more than write but I loved the daily challenge of coming back with something and hope to find a job doing this kind of work, in this area.
Now off to the Kingston This Week for 3 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

365 - May 2013
Now the big question is....... will April showers brings May flowers?
I'm finishing up my 3-week internship with the Whig and will be starting one with the Kingston This Week. I've done lots of high school sports and am looking forward to trying my hand at longer feature writing.
